Character Biographies. From The art of dramatic writing by Lajos Egri It's important as a fiction writer to know your characters. Not only should you know the characters, you should know them well. How do you get to know them well? By writing their miniature character biographies. Makes writing their dialogue and actions faster because their character is premeditated, and therefore you do not have to stop, think, and make things up as you go along. Ensures the characters are complex and believable (hard for them to not to be once you've written their biography) and far from shallow and uninteresting Their pasts, fears, identifying features etc. may bring scene ideas and help you tie their lives in with that of the other characters much easier. For newer writers this is a must, because it takes experience and skill to instantaneously create complicated, detailed, and interesting characters.
