A Brief History of the Pay per Click Advertising The PPC marketing initiative started in 1996. The first documented PPC spaces was launched by a company called Planet Oasis and it was on a desktop app. A search engine called Open Search Index started selling PPC adverts in their search results as “Preferred Listings”. Google was the third and Yahoo was fourth. The main initiative took a constructive turn in 1998 when a 25 employee company embraced the marking idea. This company is called Goto.com and it was later renamed Overture. Overture was bought over by Yahoo for $1.63 billion. The PPC search engine concept was presented on TED in California in 1998 by Jeffery Brewer who was an employee of Goto.com that later became Overture. The main marketing idea of PPC is accredited to founder of Goto.com who goes by the name of Bill Gross. It was in 1999 that google finally took over the concept method of PPC and then introduced the AdWords system the following year. It was till the year 2002, three years later that google finally kick
