BIO/CHM 370/670 Fall 2016 Disease assignment Outline due October 11 th Draft due November 1 st Final version due December 1 st In a 5-7 page paper (1.5 line spacing, 1 inch margins), present a disease resulting from some defect in nucleic acid or protein structure/function (including metabolic defects) (this covers plenty!). Answer as many of the following questions as possible (they may not all be answerable for a particular disease): What is the genetic basis of this disease? What are the mechanistic or structural causes and effects? What are the symptoms? Prognosis? What is its prevalence in the population? Is there a treatment? How might a treatment or cure be achieved? Remember a picture is worth a thousand words. If this disease is associated with some molecule for which a structure is available, go ahead and include that structure. Use schematic figures to illustrate a pathway if appropriate. Is it an enzyme defect for which you can find or predict a mechanism? If a drug is available, can you find its structure?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
