Gillian Rose -  We think of text, visual, individual, context of image, sound. Objects/Artifacts - things we see Sites - where we see them, the context, the display - how this impacts the meaning of the object actually use them.   -  selling, discipline/rules, aesthetics/inspiring,  information/educational,  expression, propaganda, humor, entertainment Practices/Processes -  culture is a set of practices and processes, look at how we  engage with artifacts and objects.  Visual is important because it is a way that we  make meaning for various purposes.  Issue of power in social relations - intention of a particular image, compared to  the way someone might use it. she asks - who is controlling the meaning of the image?  How can we change the
