E01.V.6.1 Careers in Early Childhood Education : Assignment 8 2 Creating a learning opportunity for a group of five year olds requires patience and planning. While learning about all of the research based curriculum I found that my personal favorite is the Creative Curriculum. The three main objectives of the Creative Curriculum are to emphasize the learning environment, to foster child-initiated activities, and to focus on the child’s play time. The adaptions I would need to make would be to the schedule, student groups, and creative centers in the classroom. The schedule would need to be flexible and have several options so that the children can help guide what activities we will be doing. The small groups would need to be changed frequently so that the kids feel comfortable playing with all the children in the class and not just their small friend group. Adapting the centers in the class to allow for more freedom of choice will make it so the students feel more creative in their learning environment. My curriculum plan would begin by allowing for small groups to be made in the morning. I would try to make the selections different than their core friend group to help foster acceptance and friendship with all the children. This will help to increase their social skills and will also allow them to accept being pushed out of their comfort zone. The classroom would be set up into different “centers” one for math, reading, creative art, sensory and science, and motor skills. The children, in their small groups would rotate around these “centers” throughout the day so that each group can experience each type of learning. My goal would be to have two options at two of the “centers” so that we could allow for some choices. These choices are important because they help for the kids to begin learning to make decisions based on their likes and dislikes.
