You’ll examine how maturation, experience, and psychological phenomena impact our reasoning abilities. And you’ll also learn about various tools designed to measure intelligence. Learning Objectives Upon completion of Lesson 1, you should be able to: Describe basic elements of cognition, such as concepts, propositions, mental limits, and cognitive schemas as they’re related to conscious, subconscious, and nonconscious levels of mental processing. Explain and discuss barriers to reasoning rationally, such as cognitive dissonance, cognitive biases, justification of biases, and mental sets.
