This task contains portions of material that were originally submitted during Phase 4 in HSS103 with Professor Tammy Weaver. Leadership and Ethical Decision-Making in Healthcare HCM641-1603B-01 Unit 1 Discussion Board 2 Colorado Technical University Professor Bridget Wilson Twana Davidson August 17th, 2016 The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or Affordable Care Act, also known as ACA, PPACA, or Obamacare was created to increase the quality and affordability of health insurance. President Barack Obama enacted this act on March 23, 2010. Along with the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act amendment, this was one of the major changes in the United States healthcare system since 1965 when Medicare and Medicaid were created. The main goal of PPACA is to lower the uninsured rate by expanding public and private insurance coverage and reducing the costs of healthcare for individuals and the government. Its aim is to make sure healthcare facilities are meeting the needs of the patients within the communities they provide service to through requirements they must met.
