Artifacts. values Basic assumption CHAPTER ONE THE CHALLENGES OF ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATION: Organizational communication the ability of a business organization to communicate as efficiently and effectively as possible in order to achieve a company goal (my definition). Downward communication - top of the hierarchy to the bottom Upward communication - bottom of the hierarchy to the top Horizontal communication - sideways communication through a chain of command. All organizations have a hierarchy, with rules and regulations Formal networks - hierarchy rules and regulations of communication. Informal networks - shortcuts in achieving communication w/in the chain of command. Network analysi s - statistical analysis on how communication is achieved, the outcome looks more like a matrix than a triangle. We have found that the communication itself forms the organization. Interorganizational communication communication between organizations. EX: LSU to communicate with brpd and sheriff dept etc in order to run a football game. Channels of communication- email, text, fax, teleconferencing, employee handbooks, orientation, video conference. The ability to work w/ people all around the world is phenomenal. Virtual organizations people who work in different areas of the country, city, etc. you don’t necessarily have to go to a physical building to work and clock in. you work at home, no 9-5 job. You work on your own time.
