Administrative data refers to information that is collected, processed, and/or stored primarily for administrative purposes and not research. This type of information is gathered by a hospital admitting personnel when a patient is being registered. It is known as a registration form or record. Most hospitals complete this information electronically. Administrative information is permanently kept in a patient’s record. Administrative data consists of many things. Nanette Sayles (2014) outlines the data elements of administrative data in her book “Health Information Management Technology: An Applied Approach” as follows: Demographic and Financial Information o Patient’s full name o Patient’s facility identification or account number o Patient’s address o Patient’s telephone number o Patient’s gender o Patient’s race or ethnic origin o Patient’s marital status o Name and address of patient’s next of kin o
