KIN 103U-001 Step Aerobics Spring 2008 (Tu/Th: 5:20-6:10pm) – Room 216 IM Sports Circle Instructor: Sarah Carson Office Hours: Wed. (10:00am-12:00pm) Office: 205 IM Sports Circle Other Times Available by appointment Email: carsons1@msu.edu (preferred contact method) Website: www.angel.msu.edu Telephone: (517) 353-9196 Aerobics Instructor: Katy Wozniak Course Description: This Course is designed as an alternative to high impact aerobics for beginning and intermediate step students. Its purpose is to introduce theoretical and practical principles of stretching, toning, and step aerobic activity that progressively improve cardiovascular strength and endurance, flexibility, coordination, and body image. Course Objectives: 1. To improve and demonstrate knowledge of step aerobics as well as cardiovascular strength and endurance, flexibility, coordination, and alignment through challenging activities and routines. 2. To demonstrate knowledge of the benefits of proper nutrition and how to maintain healthy eating habits. 3. To learn proper stretching and toning exercises. 4. To acquire a value for life long fitness, nutrition, exercise, and total wellness. 5. To HAVE FUN! Pre-requisites/Contraindications: Students should be prepared to exercise vigorously for 20 – 30 min. each class. Students with coronary heart disease, recent surgery, lung or musculoskeletal disorders or physician’s advice not to exercise should not participate in this class without physician permission. It is the student’s responsibility to inform the instructor or any medical condition that may effect their participation in the class. Medical permission may be required. If you have questions about this, please see the instructor. Equipment/Attire It is a VERY good idea to bring a towel and water bottle to each class. Also, come to class prepared to take notes or write down reminders. Breathable clothing and proper footwear (sneakers or aerobic shoes) are required for participation. If you do not have proper footwear, you will be considered absent. Required Textbook: Fitness Through Aerobics/Step 3 rd Edition , Mazzeo. Assignments and Exams: Syllabus Consent Form : (10 points) each student will print off a copy of the syllabus from the class web site, complete the last page, and turn it into the instructor by the end of the first week of class. 2 Exams
