Aristotle on Virtue – Class 5 Voluntary Actions involuntary action = being blown over by the wind external force involuntary action = something done when insane or extremely drunk done out of ignorance legal insanity defense Virtues Must aim at a “fine end” (end=goal) Two categories of virtue = virtues of character, intellectual virtues We consider 5 virtues of character: courage (bravery), generosity, temperance, magnaminity, Courage Involves risking your life to achieve something worthwhile Similar analysis applies if you risk something else important: job relationship, etc. Virtues of character are “means between extremes” intermediate between too little and too much Too willing to take risks = foolhardiness Too unwilling to take risks = cowardice Is it courageous to rob banks? Was it courageous to crash planes into the World Trade Center?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
