Assessing Children and Adolescents Three Contexts to Assess children and adolescents and tools that can be used to evaluate specific issues with this population. There are special situations when assessing children and adolescents in therapy. (1) The STAXI-2 can be utilized in a situation when adolescents are struggling with anger management. Adolescents may need to be evaluated on how they feel right now, how they generally feel, and how they generally react when angry. This assessment can be administered by non- clinical personel and completed in 12 to 15 minutes. In addition to the STAXI-2 tool, the CBCL tool measures aggression, hyperactivity, bullying, problems with conduct, defiance and violence. This assessment is actually used by the parents to rate problematic behaviors and competencies of children ages 2 to 18. This tool has been normed in the process of assessing African-American, Ero-American, and Hispanic populations (Sperry, 2012). (2) PLAY Therapy is a tool that is effective with children and
