Levi 1 October 25, 2007 Assignment # 2 On April 20, 1999 in Littleton, Colorado, two students, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, opened fire throughout the school hallways on their classmates at Columbine High School. The professional questions and issues raised to local and national news reporters as a result of this case are: what are the values at stake in terms of honesty and are the reporters exemplifying ethical journalism by attempting to minimize harm as well as sticking to the golden rule? Also, do national news stations have an obligation to adhere to various aspects of ethical journalism to little towns like Littleton or Blacksburg? As a result, when the Virginia Tech Massacre took place on April 16, 2007, similar questions and issues were raised among NBC News when they received videos and materials from Seung-Hui Cho, the 23-year-old gunman, who is responsible for the tragedy.
