Breezi Higgason Dr. Czennia English 101 D2 May 5, 2008 During the early stages of divorce, the negative effects on the child or children are not always evident. Adolescence is the time when the child begins to resent his or her parents for their decision. They begin to wonder why they got divorced. The laws and customs of marriage and divorce have been changing in many countries around the world, not just in the United States. (Kittleson, Ph.D. 55-65) Sometimes they even blame themselves. This brings out an angry side. This anger usually leads to lack of interest or participation in school, drug use, and it keeps them from forming sound relationships. High school can be a very stressful time. It tends to become even more stressful after the divorce. Adolesencents have a hard time focusing when they are unhappy. They become sidetracked and lose interest in important things. During this period grades start to fall below average, they often quit playing sports, and sometimes they cut themselves off from close
