Assignment #4 Due date: Nov 14 th 2015 1. You, dear mechanical engineer have to supply gears for the gearbox of a car. The input shaft of the gearbox rotates at 3000rpm and the output is 1200rpm. The car needs an output torque of 150Nm, but your gearbox could only be 75% efficient. One of the gears has 20 teeth with 1.5mm module. Calculate: a. Gear ratio of gearbox b. Power given by the cylinders to the gearbox c. Torque at the input shaft d. Pitch, pitch diameter and addendum of concerned gear 2. A single arm planetary gear system consists of a sun, a ring and 3 planet gears. The sun has 20 teeth but the planets have 30. If the sun is stationary and the arm rotates at 300rpm, how fast are the planets rotating? How fast is the ring rotating?
