BUSINESS AND COMPANY LAW 1. Introduction Organizations operate in a regulated world with various laws and statutes. Most companies have legal advisors, however it is prudent for a business manager to have basic legal knowledge for making informed decisions. 2. Course Objectives The objective of the course is to impart on students basic legal knowledge of business particularly legal principles relating to corporate business. Legal Aspects of business is a special business discipline that has evolved about the corporate world which enables Chief Executives to manage and participate in the corporate business world in a much more efficient way. The course therefore aims at introducing students to basic legal principles relating to corporate business and fortify student’s legal knowledge of the corporate world so as to enable them to grapple with legal problems in their day-to-day functions. 3. Mode of Interactions In line with the modern teaching methodology at the post-graduate level, the course will be taught in a highly interactive style. In order to meet the declared objectives, the course will build on a series of interactive lectures, and a project paper. The former is designed to mainly address the contemporary theories of Legal aspects of business, while the later is designed to offer some insights into the practical side of the legal corporate business world. Implicitly, to be able to fully participate in and maximize the benefits drawn from the course, students will be required to nurture the culture of both interactive group learning and independent learning. 4. Course Content In order to meet the declared objectives, the course will build on a series of interactive lectures, and a coursework paper. As pointed out in the table of contents, the course is broadly divided into the following seven subjects together with the main topics for each subject.
