Define the term Social Supportand explain what relevant scholarly research states about it. Social support definition can vary in many ways. One definition defines social support as a “process of social exchange that contributes to the development of individuals’ behavioral patterns, social cognition and values.” (Tasdan & Yalcin, 2010) Another definition is “the feeling or experience of having others who love and care for you who you can turn to for help in times of need” (alleydog). Support can come in many forms. It can be financial, emotional or simply somebody to listen to you and give you advice. “Research has shown that social support is an important coping mechanism during stress, and it also promotes health.
