KOREA1109: ELEMENTARY KOREAN READING AND WRITING 1                                                             Fall 2008   Class Hours : MWF 1:25-2:15, RF 189 Instructor : Meejeong Song (  [email protected] ), RF123, 255-8498 Office Hours : Thursday 10:10-11:00 or by appointment Course Description : This course is designed for the Korean heritage students who can speak Korean but have not received any  structural instruction before, to improve their reading and writing skills of the Korean language and to be  familiarized to the culture. Basic knowledge of Korean grammar, vocabulary, expressions and cultural  points of each lesson from the textbook will be given. Plus various reading materials will be brought in  class for discussion, and students will be able to build up their knowledge of Korean culture and history  accordingly. Among most commonly used idiomatic expressions ( ) by Korean native speakers, 44  will be introduced for better understanding of Korean language and culture. Students will also be able to  minimize their spelling errors while they practice writing. All lectures will be presented in powerpoint,  and the files can be accessible from the blackboard for your previewing or reviewing. Other course  materials will also be found from the blackboard. This course will match the balance of student’s  accuracy and fluency. Course Objectives : Students will acquire concrete knowledge of grammar and be able to minimize their spelling errors in  writing, after a frequent practice of writing. They will be confident in reading muliple paragraph-long
