Greenwashing is when a company presents false information about their claims to be green or eco-friendly (TerraChoice, n.d.). Companies use greenwashing to differentiate themselves in the market, and appeal to environmentally conscious consumers. There are many consequences to greenwashing that effects the public interest which includes deceiving consumers into green purchases that do not deliver, creates unfair competition for businesses that may have a more legitimate eco-product and it creates doubt in consumers for all environmental claims (TerraChoice, n.d.). The business is maximizing on the attention green advertising draws in. Parguel, Benoit-Moreau, and Russell (2015) found that advertisements that promote nature are emotionally arousing as experiencing real nature producing a positive attitude towards the brand. Falsifying claims about being a green product has benefits for the business as it creates a positive response from consumers and increases the chances of the consumer purchasing the product. However, falsifying information and deceiving consumers is illegal.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
