I enjoyed your comparison of Christ knowing his disciples and how teachers should know their students. Teachers do have a grave responsibility as young persons are entrusted to them for an entire school year. With an average school year being about 180 days and 8 hours in the school day that’s 1, 440 hours of a student’s life that they are at school each year. Wow! What a tremendous influence a teacher has! How is a teacher supposed to reach the needs of all learners without knowing them and what makes them tick? I agree with the viewpoint that Cuevas (2015) shares from one textbook which encourages teachers and their students to know their learning styles because it helps teachers to see their students as individuals and for teacher and student alike to think about their own learning (p. 317). Another textbook in Cuevas’s research presents the importance of knowing your students to relate better to them and provide differentiated instruction.
