E-Journal 1 John Dean had many roles in the White House. The one he will most likely be remembered for was serving as former President Nixon’s legal counsel during the early 70’s. It was this particular role which made him famous and put him in the spotlight during the notorious Watergate Scandal. When the events of Watergate surfaced a relentless investigation ensued to determine who was behind those criminal actions. It appeared for a while that John Dean was going to take the hit for the undertakings of the Nixon Administration. Many had either quit or were forced to resign to avoid the hammer that was about to come down. When Dean was asked to testify in court he was the first to link the President with the Watergate Scandals. He became the center of focus for our Nation when he shocked the world by standing up to the Presidency. At first, it seemed that Dean was in a losing battle considering what he was up against. However, security tapes were revealed which exonerated Dean from the accusations. The Nixon Presidency, Watergate, and John Dean have significant importance
