English 1302: Essay #2/Character Analysis Assignment Direction s: Your assignment is to write a character analysis of a major character from one of the three Southern Gothic stories. Students will also read Chapter 3, pages 218-225 and the PowerPoint on Character Analysis before beginning this assignment. This is not a description of the character’s physical traits unless they relate to their mental/emotional make-up; it is an in-depth analysis of their central characteristics that determine how they act in the story. The analysis must have at least five paragraphs (intro/body/conclusion) and be a minimum of 850 words in length . The last page will be the Work Cited entry for story cited in the essay. (The Work Cited never counts in the word length.) Organization: The essay can be organized in one of three ways. - Develop the essay around the character’s central trait(s) . Essay would use dialogue, events, narrator or other character’s input to prove these traits are dominant.
