MC2525 SPEECH CRITIQUE (Worth: 5% of Final Grade) One of the primary objectives for this course is to develop an ability to critically engage and evaluate the attempts of persuasion you regularly encounter. This semester, we are fortunate to be in the midst of a very interesting Presidential election season and subject to many acts of persuasion. For this assignment, you are asked to choose and analyze one of the Presidential nomination acceptance speeches being given. First, watch or read Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech to be given Thursday, August 25; OR watch or read John McCain’s nomination acceptance speech to be given Thursday, September 4. Need help finding these speeches? PBS and the major networks are airing the speeches live on television during primetime hours. Afterwards, you can go to reliable Internet news sources to re-play the speeches. (Be careful viewing the speech on sites like YouTube where Internet users may have edited the speech for their personal/political ends.) For print versions
