AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF ANC•SYSTEMATIC SUPERVISION (EXAMINA-TION AND ADVICE) OF A WOMAN DURING PREGNANCY IS CALLED ANTENATAL CARE. It comprises 1. Careful Hx. Taking and examination(general and obstetrical) 2. Advice given to the pregnant woman.•THE OBJECTIVE: TO ENSURE A NORMAL PREGNANCY WITH THE DELIVERY OF A HEALTHY BABY FROM A HEALTHY MOTHER
AIMS OF ANC•TO SCREEN THE “HIGH RISK” CASES. High risk pregnancy is defined as one which is complicated by factor or factors that ad-versely affects the pregnancy outcome – ma-ternal, perinatal or both. Examples include el-derly primigravidas >= 35yrs, short stature <= 140cm, previous C/S, malpresentations, PET/Eclampsia etc.
AIMS CONT’D•TO DETECT, PREVENT, AND TREAT ANY COM-PLICATIONS AT THE EARLIEST•TO ENSURE CONTINUAL RISK ASSESSMENT AND TO PROVIDE ONGOING PRIMARY PRE-VENTIVE HEALTH EDUCATION•TO EDUCATE THE MOTHER ON PHYSIOLOGY OF PREGNANCY AND LABOUR•TO DISCUSS THE PLACE, TIME AND MODE OF DELIVERY•TO DISCUSS FP AND COUNSEL COUPLES WANT-ING TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY
