School Demographics Geographical Location of School Pierre A. Capdau is located at 3821 Franklin Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70122. The school is conveniently located in the Gentilly area, approximately three miles from the University of New Orleans. Capdau is in close proximity to the three other schools that fall under the Capital-One UNO umbrella Nelson Charter, Gentilly Terrace, and Thurgood Marshall Early College High School.

Philosophy & Mission Statement Philosophy The philosophy of Pierre A. Capdau is to challenge our students intellectually, grow them socially, and guide them toward independent thinking. The Counselors at Pierre A. Capdau believe: That all children should receive the care and education to develop their full potential. That the school counseling program is managed by certified school counselors. That the children will have access to school counselors to discuss personal issues. That the children will have access to information to academic planning. That each child should be provided with a background of cultural diversity with emphasis on the dignity and respect of the individual. That all children will be empowered to express themselves on how they feel. To assist each child to make healthy choices, promote personal growth, and to be aware of his/her own worth. That the children develop the skills needed to be productive citizens of the community. Mission The mission of the counseling department is to provide a positive learning community for all students to achieve their full potential in order to become productive citizens and lifelong learners. Counselors will provide students with a comprehensive counseling program that will allow them access to a variety of resources which will promote academic excellence as well as social and cultural enrichment. By reinforcing values of honesty, compassion, fairness, and personal integrity, our counselors will promote commitment to teamwork, sharing, and cooperation. The counselors are available to aid students in family issues, address all academic concerns, and perform personal counseling. The counselors also work to build relationships with the parents. They encourage them to get involved, volunteer their time, and join the school in supporting their children.

Staff Profile Pierre A. Capdau employs 27 full time teachers and 3 full time paraprofessionals. Capdau utilizes only certified teachers who are highly qualified in their specialty area. The school has a principal and an assistant principal that maintain day to day functioning and operations as well as oversee daily classroom instruction. The staff also includes two full time counselors, one holding a PhD, that focus on meeting the student’s developmental needs through reinforcement of core values.
