Running head: ON SITE REPORT 1 On Site Report and Evaluation: Loyola University New Orleans Career Development Center Kaitlyn O'Connor University of Holy Cross On Site Report and Evaluation: Loyola University New Orleans Career Development Center Founded in 1912, Loyola University New Orleans is a private, Catholic, Jesuit university with approximately 3,836 students enrolled, including undergraduate, graduate, Doctoral, law, and continuing education students. Loyola University offers counseling services to students, faculty, staff, and alumni free of charge. Multiple professionals are available on the campus for students to speak with for individual, couples, group, and crisis counseling. The University Counseling Center does not offer career counseling, but works closely with the Career Development Center. Both centers are overseen by the office of student affairs. While the two centers share a waiting room and an officer manager, the two act as separate entities with different budgets, employees, activities, and services. Site Demographics Loyola University is located at 6363 St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. On the second floor of the Danna Center, Loyola’s student center, is the office space available for the University
ON SITE REPORT 2 Counseling Center and the Career Development Center. The right side of the large office space is for the counseling center, with posters displaying signs and symptoms of depression. The left side of the office has a large window surrounded by tables and chairs with pamphlets on career development, internship opportunities, and online resources for finding jobs. Painted on the door are office hours and the number for the counselor on-call, whom students may call in the event of a crisis at (504) 865-3835 and press 1 to speak with a licensed mental health professional. Office Information To schedule an appointment for either the University Counseling Center or the Career Development Center, anyone affiliated with the university may call (504) 865-3860. Due to the centers sharing an office manager, the caller must specify the type of counseling he/she wishes to receive. Both centers are open year-round Monday thru Friday 8:30 AM- 4:45 PM by appointment via phone call or email. A message may be left afterhours for the center, and someone will return the call when the office is open. If someone wishes to directly contact the Career Development Center, he/she may email [email protected] . The Career Development Center accepts walk-ins Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 2PM- 4PM. Employee Information The Career Development Center currently has 3 full-time and 2 part-time employees responsible for servicing Loyola’s 3,836 students. Employees at the center are the director, one career coach, and the internship and recruitment manager, as well as a graduate assistant and the office manager shared with the counseling center. The center is in the process of hiring 2 more full-time employees to provide more extensive services to students. These new employees will be hired as career coaches.
