Litigation Basics Week of August 25, 2008 A PPELLATE R EVIEW AND P OST - TRIAL P ROCEDURES On Tuesday, August 26 we will start our overview of the litigation process in criminal and civil cases; our discussion of the main steps in civil and criminal cases. Although post-trial motions and appeal are the end of the litigation process, we will start there because we have already discussed, in connection with our Connecticut cases, some aspects of these stages. After this week, we will go back to the beginning and work through the major stages of civil and criminal litigation up to and including trial. The reading assignment for the week is shown on the Syllabus. The assigned Federal Rules are in the packet of photocopied Federal Rules materials. There is also a page assigned in the photocopied Rubino Civil Case file. Finally, posted on Blackboard are some Notes on Appellate Review. On Tuesday August 26, we will first wrap up our discussion of statutory interpretation and the Baker case.
