Page 1 of 1 MECE E1001 Homework Set #1 Due Date: September 17, 2007 In addition to the problems below, solve problems 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, and 3.5 from the textbook. 1. Estimate the price that you (or somebody else such as your parents) pay for each lecture in this course. Include tuition as well as room and board in your calculation. Compare that value to the cost of a ticket for a Broadway show. 2. Create an m-file using Matlab which plots the following six (x,y) data points in an x-y plot: (1.3, 1.5), (1.8, 2.4), (3.6, 2.9), (4.2, 4.1), (4.7, 7.3), (8.0, 7.6), in consecutive order. Do this by creating two vectors, named respectively, x and y and then use the plot command. You need to submit a hard copy of the m-file which contains the pertinent commands and also of the plot. Be sure to label plot axes and to provide a title. 3. According to the theory of elasticity, the stress in a material directly in front of the tip of a very long straight crack is infinitely large.
