Joshua Flores October 24, 2008 Introduction to Music 07:700:101:01 F08 HELIX! New Music Ensemble The Helix music ensemble performed originally composed modern music in the Nicholas Music center on October 19 th . They presented an interesting way of using their instruments and voices to portray the feelings and meanings behind their song texts. The sounds that they created along with the vocalists’ styles of singing enabled their audience to actually feel the ominous tones of the music. The ensemble used string instruments (violin, cello, and piano), woodwind instruments (clarinet and flute), and percussion instruments (drums and bells) alongside a projector screen that displayed a slideshow of images related to the song text. The performers consisted of music students from the Mason Gross School of the Arts, and they demonstrated great skill and showmanship during their performance. As a result, the audience gained a deeper appreciation for modern music, as well as a better recognition for the accomplishments of the
