The Difference between Data Governance and Information Governance What is Information Governance? AHIMA defines it as: “An organization wide framework for managing information throughout its lifecycle and for supporting the organization’s strategy, operations, regulatory, legal, risk, and environmental requirements.” . The data involved such as email, financial records, staffing data, legal records, structured and unstructured data, website content and traditional patient health records are all considered Information Governance. All of what makes the entire process for patient care possible. In the Health Information Management professional’s role, it is approved by the government to assign governance leaders to create the initiatives to follow. Data Governance is different from Information Governance in that it is looking at the details of what is in the record. The data from the patients that go into the system to create the
