1. Principle 1: People Face Trade-Offs: Describe at least two trade-offs in the story. The drainage tiles were installed to allow excess water to flow into streams but this is causing Nitrate to flow into the rivers and streams much quicker and easier. Creating trapping ponds to route the drainage tiles to but this would raise the production and raise prices of corn for consumers. 2. Principle 2: The Cost of Something is What You Give Up to Get it. a. Iowa has a low unemployment rate, in part because of the successful corn growing industry. What is Iowa’s opportunity cost of its low unemployment rate? Iowa gives us reducing pollution for their drinking water to make sure corns are cropped correctly. b. The individual counties in Iowa also benefit from the successful corn farming activities, but at a cost. What action is being taken by the city of Des Moines that may result in a cost to these counties (read the 2nd article, above)?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
