GUI (pronounced “gooey”): Graphical use interface Allows users to control computer by manipulating graphics. - e.g. radio buttons, scroll bard, menus, etc. Specifically, GUI format is WIMP (Windows, icon, menu, printing device) Before GUI… Test-based command line interface (CLI) (Run cmd) Using CLI neds knowledge of - Numerous commands - File paths - e.g. c: folder subfolder textfile txt (within a folder is a subfolder, which contains the file) Less intuitive, steep learning curve Not as user friendly Historical evolution of GUI (early apple and pc’s used these) Originated in Xerox PARC (Palo Alto Research Center) - Responsible for alot of the computer revolutions (i.e. created laser printer) - First commercial implementation at Apple. - With the first Macintosh (1984) GUI became widespread.
