Principles of Organizational Performance ManagementC161The purpose of this paper is to envision myself in a nurse leadership role responsible for multiple departments, units or service areas. My team is struggling with
performance of outcome measures that are below benchmarks. I will explore ways to improve these outcomes through improved employee engagement by creating a performance data scorecard that will focus on outcome measures within my healthcare organization.A1. Identify the Patient Population Being AddressedThe population being addressed are patients within a state psychiatric facility,CSH. CSH, originally known as the Central Lunatic Asylum, is a state psychiatric hospital in Virginia dating back to 1870. The population includes adults 18 years of age and older (minimal geriatric patients). CSH provide services to patients ranging from short term, quick re-entry to the community and long term intensive treatment for the most seriously mentally ill, often turned away from for-profit hospitals. CSH houses Virginia’s only Forensic Mental Health Unit, serving patients involved in the criminal justice system. CSH is broken into various buildings but it is important to note that as a hospital, it is broken into two definitive categories: forensic patients and civil patients. Patients on the Maximum Security Forensic Unit are being evaluated for competency to stand trial, restoration services to prepare them for trial or have already been found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) and are serving their time at CSH. On the Civil Adult Unit patients either have small misdemeanor charges or have been sentenced to service their time in the state hospital. Overtime, these patients have progressed to receiving more freedoms such as visitations, less restrictive rules and more liberties with activitiesand day passes.
A2.
