Soo Min Lee Prof. Trudie December 13, 2015 The Met Project I “The Trinity” ca. 1390- 1396 Tempera on wood, gold ground Angolo Gaddi A. The painting is simple and natural which is common in the pro- renaissance paintings. B. Gift from George Blumenthal, 1941. C. The two influences would be religion and pastel colors. D. The painting displays the death of Jesus and it seems like God is holding on to him by his cross. And since “tri” means 3 i believe the dove represents the freedom, since Jesus died on the cross so that we may be free from our sins and go to heaven. What I am intrigued by this painting is the blood spot on Jesus’s chest. It looks like it was placed there by accident, like as if he lost the control of his brush. The painting does not really have that much details other than the folding of the clothing of God. And it’s kind of surprising that Gaddi did not make God’s clothing more King like clothing seems very plain. “Portrait of a Woman with a Man at a Casement” ca. 1440 - 1444 Tempera on Wood Fra Filippo Lippi A. The two characteristic the painting holds from early renaissance is the revolutionized face and the beginning of the details on the clothing. B. One of Marquand Collection, Gift of Henry G. Marquand, 1889. THE MET PROJECT 1

D. The painting’s main point is the woman, making the background simple. The usage of the male character on the left helps us lead our attention to the woman’s face and the color he chose to paint her face very pale and light compared to the other color choices. The details of the clothing [the sleeves] indicates that she is from a wealthy family and the color represent some sort of marriage between the two. There is a belief that the couple are Ranieri Scolari and Angiola di Bernardo Sapiti, who got married in the 1436. I selected this piece because it
