Activity 3.1.3 Student Response Sheet 1. In your own words, create a definition for cancer . Cancer is a term for disease in which abnormal cells divide uncontrollably and destroy others body tissue. 2. What is the difference between normal cell division and cancer cell division? Normal cells stop growing when enough of that cell are present, whereas cancer cells continue multiplying. Since cancer cells continue to grow, tumors are usually formed. 3. Draw a feedback loop depicting the role of oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes in cancer. When oncogenes are created to due to a mutation in the proto-oncogenes, a positive feedback loop occurs, in which cells multiply uncontrollably, without anything able to stop them, they can continue to spread and grow. Tumor suppressor genes cause a negative feedback loop as they cause apoptosis in the cells that would otherwise become cancer. 4. How does cancer spread or metastasize?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
