Lab # 6 MENG – 181 Objectives – To introduce analogue to digital convertors as a means to control the speed of a DC fan motor using a PIC microcontroller. Apparatus – 1. PIC 12F675 Microcontroller. 2. PIC Programmer Hardware. 3. + 12 DC Power Supply. 4. Electronic Breadboard 5. 2 x 1k OHM Resistors 6. 1 x Light Emitting Diode (LED) 7. 1 x TIP41C NPN Transistor 8. 1 x 12 VDC Fan 9. 1 x 10 k OHM Potentiometer 10. Breadboard Wires Theory– Some microcontrollers like PIC 12F675 have the ability to read in a voltage and convert it to 10-bit binary number. This process is called analogue to digital conversion or ADC for short. The ADC work with 4 different input pins. The pins are labeled AN0 to AN3. FIG. 1- PIN LAYOUT OF THE PIC12F675 Although there are 4 input pins that can be used for ADC there is only one ADC module in the PIC 12F675. Therefore, the ADC pins must take turns using the ADC module. The output from the ADC is stored in 2 registers, ADRESH and ADRESL. The output from the ADC can be stored in one of two manners, right and left justified. If we used the left justified
