Introduction It is a basic truth that food and water are essential to the survival and development of the human species in the world. However, in the efforts to produce food, humankind is gradually causing the destruction of the environment in a myriad of ways. The evolution of the human species is at the point where advanced measures are being implemented to enable the sustenance of people at all costs. The implications of this objective is that the climatic conditions of the world are steadily deteriorating and the carbon emissions attributable to human activity is higher than ever[Wil00]. In recent years, the concern over the use of intensive agribusiness practices has become elevated and the implications of these methods are being reduced through the application of alternative farming methods[Wil00]. Organic farming is one of the prominent farming methods being applied as an alternative to intensive farming practices. In organic farming, the agricultural practices are aimed at achieving profitable food yields in a way that is environment friendly as well as nutritious to the consumers. A viable opportunity exists in the concept of organic farming as it is an alternative means of food production that is steadily gaining popularity in the world we live in today. The Concept of Organic Farming As a tool for fuelling mankind through sustainable provision of food, organic agriculture results in the realization of clear benefits for biodiversity as compared with the more conventional and traditional farming practices. The objective is to realize satisfactory food yields for the human population without causing adverse implications on other animal and plant life in the process. The conventional systems are input- intensive and utilize substantial agrochemicals that have a considerably adverse impact on animal and plant life despite resulting in higher yield of food for

This includes harvesting, cultivation, rearing animals and milking. The type of farm determines farming systems. Organic farms can be classified as being arable, pastoral, mixed and market gardening. Most organic farmers practice mixed farming, which combined animal rearing with plant growing as a means of diversifying the farming practice. In addition, to the normal requirements of an economic activity such as land, labor and capital, the practice of organic farming requires the consideration of other factors specifically relevant to farming. These include climate, access to information,
