Lauren Fernandez Period 6 12/14/15 Through the eyes of the less wealthy, the rich seem to have everything. Because of that, we believe them to be happy and content in their lives. Generally, rich characters in movies and literature are written and portrayed to be happy, enjoying everything that they have. However, Fitzgerald introduces us to Tom, Daisy, and Jordan. They are very rich, but unlike our general idea of rich people, they do not seem to be happy with what they have. Fitzgerald writes them to be like this to say that even if the very rich in the 1920s seem to have everything, they are not necessarily happy and content with what they have. In the beginning, we are introduced to Tom, a friend of Nick’s that lives in East Egg. Since he lives in East Egg, Tom is very rich. He has a big house, a wife, and he doesn’t even need to work. However, even if he is married to Daisy, who is known to be a charming lady, it is revealed by Catherine during the party with Myrtle that Tom is not happy with Daisy. Instead, Tom cheats on Daisy by going out with another woman named Myrtle. By going out with Myrtle,
