This class qualifies for the following degree or certificate: Accounting, Computer Accounting, Professional Accountant, and Insurance Professional. Prerequisites ( You must have this prerequisite to be in this class. ) ACCTG 1 (Accounting 1) or ACCTG 21 (Small Business Accounting) ** Note: Students are required to come to this class with a solid foundation of principles of accounting. Also, online students are expected to have a working knowledge of operating systems. (Example: Save files, ZIP folders/files, upload and download files, and any other basic operating systems features.) Course Description This course entails the detailed application of accounting principles using Excel. Topics include creating professional worksheets, the use of formulas and functions, charts, database, basic macros, and other Excel features with emphasis on accounting as a financial analysis tool. Note: We are using the full version of Microsoft Office 2016 for this class. If you have Microsoft Office 2013, you can use that version too. You will not be allowed to use any other version of Microsoft Office for this class. Mac users must have Microsoft Office 2016 installed in their computer for this class. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Given the proper accounting data, create financial statements and graphs that are appropriately and accurately designed in Excel spreadsheets. Assessment Method : Class Projects or Exams.

Demonstrate a level of engagement in the subject matter that reveals their understanding of the value of the course content beyond the task itself, specifically as it relates to linking the relevance of course content to careers in business and accounting and their personal lives. Assessment Method: Class Projects or Exams. Course Objectives Upon completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Apply fundamental features of Excel; 2. Create analytical and financial workbooks suitable for accounting professionals; 3. Apply formulas and functions on various financial worksheets; 4. Create various worksheets including bank reconciliation, payroll registers, aging reports, and other business reports; 5. Design charts and graphics using financial data; 6. Create, modify, and maintain Excel data list reports; 7. Create and test basic macros; 8. Sort data list records and filter data list records.
