When ask the question to determine if the black and gray squirrels are actually a separate species we first must understand what each black and squirrels are. The gray squirrel is described by animals.mom.me as, “ Individual hairs are banded black, brown and white, giving an overall gray effect. Coat color changes seasonally; winter coats grow longer, thicker and silvery- gray before molting to yellowish-gray in summer.” In other words the gray squirrel is more of a light color that cold come in other color besides gray. It also could look light grey, brown or dark brown. The color of the squirrel could also resemble some colors of the black squirrel. It also goes on to talk about the black squirrel, it states, “Their black coats make them more noticeable to the public, who feed them more, supporting colonies' survival. They are thought to be more prevalent in the northern United States.” The article goes on to give information on the location of the black squirrel, as far as where it is
