The author; David Mitchell clearly brings forth this theme through characterization and the setting of his story. Love is a critical subject all over the world and in the novel, ‘The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet’ it is not an exception. The author, David Mitchell has greatly utilized this theme to attract the attention of the reader and build on other themes within the novel. This paper will discuss the different views and perceptions accorded to the topic of love by different characters and varying societies and religious groups within the setting.
