1. What modern practice of ranching is he criticizing? He criticizes the modern method employed by ranchers to eliminate the prairie dogs. This modern practice entails using the pest control officer who launches an extensive dangerous and poisoning campaign. The pest control officer kills several rabbits and use them as baits with a piece of wood stuck in them. The stick contains an explosive thrust that shoots some cyanide into the mouth of the coyote who tags at it. Through training the officer is vigilant, thus, in every stick the officer prints a warning reading ‘Danger, Explosive, Poison!!!’ However, some of the natives’ children and dogs cannot read the warning making the practice dangerous and a threat to the Indians. 6.
