2. How does he use language effectively to heighten the effect on the reader? Find an example of his use of slang or colloquialisms? Make a short list of them. The author heightens his language effectively through the use of various techniques that draws the reader into the story particularly through slang, description, dialogue, personal experience, humor, irony, and characterization. One example of slang used includes the word “booze” referring to alcohol (p. 68). List Wino refers to an individual associated with taking excessive amount of alcohol or wine (p. 67) Cop refers to a police officer (p.68) Piss is a slang word meaning to urinate (p. 68) Moonshine is also a slang word referring to alcohol (p. 77) Buddy refers to a friend (p. 77) 6. What personal experience with discrimination does Lame Deer cite and how does it relate to his central claim that “we don’t have equal justice around here?” Lame Deer describes one instance a few years back when he decided to take alcohol.
