Shanita Farmer Sociology in a Global Perspective M1-A3: The Application Paper The social problem that is being investigated by the researchers pertains to clinical decisions made based on the patient’s physical characteristics, such as age, sex, social economic status, and race. The patients’ characteristics bore no influence on the outcomes of any of the studies conducted by the three mentioned authors. The patients’ medical insurance was specified as Medicare with supplemental coverage only, or Medicaid. The insurance information coupled with the patient's demeanor and garb formed a representation of socioeconomic status. Professional actors and actresses portrayed patients with polymyalgia rheumatica or PMR, which is a musculoskeletal disorder, in one scenario. In another, the patients exhibited symptoms of depression. To counterbalance the scenarios, the patients also displayed in between with symptoms of dyspnea, which is shortness of breath.
