Cinnamon History Cinnamon was discovered around 1518 by Portuguese traders at Ceylon, present- day Sri Lanka. Cinnamon has 2 main types: Ceylon cinnamon (“true”), and Cassia cinnamon (the more common). Health Cinnamon reduces high cholesterol levels, high triglyceride levels, and high blood pressure. [draxe] Cinnamon is known to have an anti-diabetic effect. It lowers blood sugar levels and can improve sensitivity to the hormone insulin. [draxe] Cooking Cinnamon’s sweet taste makes it a popular spice. It can be used in many recipes. Recipe (Churros) Ingredients: 1 cup of water ½ cup of butter or margarine ¼ teaspoon of salt 1 cup of all-purpose flour 3 eggs Vegetable oil, for frying ¼ cup of sugar ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon Williams 1
