Alliances - protecting each other, had to drag in others. Triple Alliance Triple Entente Japan isn’t in until WWII Balkans are a huge problem, bad geography, good areas that are wanted to be controlled, and there are many ethnic groups. Nationalism - extreme pride of country French Revolution spread nationalism The idea that people with the same ethnic origins, language, and political ideals had the right to form sovereign states through the process of self-determination.
