Introduction There are several factors ad concepts which should be taken into account when performing a research study. An acceptable topic must first be chosen. Secondly, independent and dependant variables are to be selected. Afterwards, a sample must be chosen. Factors such as validity: internal, external and construct present issues which could greatly impact research results. This document will examine the issues presented by intetnal, external and construct validity and how it relates to research. Internal Validity Internal validity, external validity, and construct validity are all factors to be considered when conducting a research study as such factors determine the accuracy of the study’s findings. Internal validity defined is an approximation of the truth concerning inferences in regards to cause and effect relationships or causal relationships. Therefore, internal validity is only relevant in studies which attempt to create a causal relationship. The lesser chance that a study uses more than one independent variable, the higher the study’s internal validity is. The internal validity of a study refers to “how well a study is done.” The more confidence a researcher can place on the cause-effect relationships within the study, and the less confounding the study is, the higher the internal validity of the study is thought to be (Trochim, 2006). External Validity In contrast, external validity is defined as the validity of generalized inferences in scientific research. When a study is tested to go beyond the chosen sample and researches other groups of individuals, places, time periods etc. outside of the sample, the results can be

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
