You will receive separate letter grades for each. The purpose of GSBA 511 Microeconomics is to refine our understanding of how markets work and to explore the challenges and opportunities that markets pose for managers and firms. The course applies basic economic principles to address issues that arise in a firm’s relationships with customers, suppliers, competitors, employees, other organizations, and the regulatory environment. GSBA 544 Macroeconomics will help you understand how economies function, both in the national and international contexts. Such an understanding should allow you to make sound and informed business decisions. Economics also provides some fundamental building blocks for other courses in the core curriculum, including Marketing Management, Strategic Formulation for Competitive Advantage, and Corporate Finance. Required Course Material The required text for GSBA 511 & 544 is Hubbard and O’Brien, Essentials of Economics , Pearson Prentice Hall, 5th Edition. The text is bundled with MyEconLab (MEL), which is an online study aid. We will use MEL for graded assignments. You will get automatic feedback as you do the problems. ISBN for the text with MEL is: ISBN-13: 9780134434469 (loose leaf text + MyEconLab) ISBN-13: 9780134435060 (standard bound text + MyEconLab) Detailed MEL registration and course enrollment information is provided at the end of the syllabus. Power point slides of the lectures and other course material (notes, articles, etc.) will be provided in advance of each class on Blackboard.
