Ashley Oliver Lab date: 9/29/16 Lab 5: Dissection of Mussel and Sea Star Lab section: Thurs 9am- Watland Pre-Lab Purpose: Groups will be dissecting a freshwater mussel and sea star which represents the phylum Mollusca and Echinodermata. During this dissection, groups will look at the external and internal anatomies of a protostome and deuterostome, learning the placement and function of the structures. Mussel Sea Star Step 2: Place the sea star with its oral surface down. Thrugh one of the rays, make a cross sectional cut. Step 1: Take a look at the external features. You will see the mouth opening that is surrounded by conspicuous spines. You wil also be able to identify the numerous tube feet.
