PRODUCT PACKAGING 2 Product Packaging Retail product package design is a critical piece of the manufacturing process. The packaging needs to be attractive, protective, and provide information to the consumer. Shoppers walk up and down aisles at retail stores. They pass thousands of products that manufacturers want to sell. The packaging of a product can make the difference in a customer purchasing the product or passing on it. Manufacturers have learned that they need to invest more money testing packaging. They poll consumers and research the latest trends and culture to apply that to their packaging. However, with all that research fifty percent of products still fail within the first year (Klimchuk & Krasovec, 2013). This makes the development of the package an important piece to the success of the product. This paper will explore several types of printing methods that could be used to develop and market the packaging for a newly created product. The product is being manufactured in China and then shipped to the United States to be sold. The product will be packaged in a folding carton and will use three colors on the packaging. It will begin with smaller runs, and if successful, it could go into larger production. The printing methods may change between the small and large production runs. The three colors used in the design will be one of the first things determined. Consumers will see these colors before any other part of the packaging (Klimchuk & Krasovec, 2012). This makes the color selection critical to the success of the product. Once the colors have been selected, they will be converted to a four-color process for printing. This process uses four colors to print all other colors, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK) (Klimchuk & Krasovec, 2012). These colors are printed in dot

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
